Description: Positioned directly outside the venue entrances, greeters welcome patrons and advise on the correct entrance as well as encourage patrons to have their bags ready for inspection/tickets ready for scanning.

How to:

  1. For events with security, patrons should have their bags, jackets, etc. ready for inspection (check with security for more info)

  2. Kindly greet each group of customers and point them to the correct entrance (tickets in hand entrance vs. box office entrance)

  3. When busy, use a greeting similar to the following on a loop.

    • Ex. "Welcome to Loos Center! Please make sure your mobile phone tickets are ready and and that your screen brightness is up all the way for scanning. Today's performance has two 45 minute sets with a 15 minute intermission in between. Restrooms are located on the far end of the atrium, with the women's room on your left as you enter the building and the men's room on your right. The bar accepts both cash and card payments."

Attire: Dress Blacks What are Dress Blacks?

Description: Volunteers in the usher position should be comfortable with the theater's seating layout. As patrons enter the theater, ushers direct patrons to their seats in an efficient and friendly manner. Before doors open, ushers perform a quick theater check and alert the House Manager if any messes/trash need to be attended to before patrons enter. Once doors open, ushers check patron tickets and find the most direct route to the assigned seat. During an event, the usher stays in their assigned seat and steps in if patrons enter the venue late or get up during an act to get them safely to their destination.

How to:

  1. As patrons enter, look at the group of tickets and safely direct patrons to their seats. If applicable, hand a program to each patron as they are seated.

  2. Use the Loos CFA-provided flashlight to guide patrons to their seats.

*Make sure to keep your flashlight pointed at the ground when possible to avoid accidentally shining the flashlight in a patron's face.

  3.  During the event, use an assigned seat along an aisle. If patrons move about the theater, guide them with light, as necessary.

  4.  During theatrical events, ensure patrons do not attempt to photograph/video the event.

  5.  At the end of the event, guide patrons to the atrium in a timely fashion. (We cannot start cleaning after an event until all patrons have left the theater).

*For non-assigned seat events, gently remind patrons to avoid "orphaned" seats (empty single seats).

Tips:

  • Remember "Stage south, evens east". As patrons enter the venue, you'll likely be facing the rear doors (north) of the theater.

  • House Right and House Left low numbers (1 & 2...) start at the center aisle.

  • House Center 101 starts in the house center-right aisle.

  • Lt. blue seats are removable for wheelchairs.

  • Purple seats are "companion", meaning the armrest lifts up for easy slide-in from the aisle side.

  • Wheelchair & accessible seating enter the venue first.

  • Wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters cannot be kept in aisles and should be brought to the back of the house (rear of theater).

  • A copy of this map will be distributed to the greeter/usher position when they arrive -- no need to memorize!
